E For Envy

"Neighbor's envy, owner's pride."

Two decades back, an advertisement professed this line. And did it reflect a reality which we often tend to conceal.

Envy (noun)A feeling of grudging admiration and desire to have something that is possessed by another.

~~~~
An owner's secret,
Had a subtle hint.
A life private,
Had a bright tint.
The haze behind the glass,
Made him a bit crass.
On a bright sunny day,
Conjured thoughts, deep and dark.
Something obscure,
Had a mysterious lure.
Something plain,
Evoked desires of vain.
Attractions of the unknown,
Had a dark tone.
The needs and the wants,
Continued to haunt.
The color was green,
Of what could have been.
The mind needed to be free,
Caught in a storm, it was, of Envy.
Envy
P.S. Unknown things are often known to evoke emotions bordering on envy.
  3. I imagine a lot of people must have these feelings, in our materialistic society. An interesting read.
