My feet stood firm,
On the steady ground.
Wish the earth could crumble,
And swallow me around.
I hadn't done anything bad,
Hadn't indulged in something crazy.
A compliment was making me feel glad,
Coloring my mind, making me hazy.
What is it about the appreciation,
My simple mind, it does strengthen.
Unnecessary comparisons it evokes,
Needless fires it sometimes stokes.
Not wanting to be valued,
Can a coffee do without being brewed?
Such things are a part of life,
It shouldn't result in mental strife.
A pat on the back,
Can get a life back on track.
A few words of motivation,
Can bury many a demon.
Receiving admiration is not a crime,
Creating moments, standing the test of time.
I learn to gracefully acknowledge the laurel,
All I can be is thankful and humble.

Great poem and love that second pic
Being able to gracefully acknowledge appreciation is always challenging, and to do so with humility and modesty (and in a realistic manner) is even more difficult. Often what we mistake as modesty and humility are but reverse snobbery or false pride in disguise. Nice poem. Important thoughts.
Wonderful words... Truly deserves appreciation! :)
On another note, I totally get what you have wrote. Humility is much needed in everyone's life so our feet is on the ground and head is below the cloud.
I think humility is an essential virtue for anybody and thats waht keeps us grounded. Besides we shouldn't forget that destiny has its own ways.
You are developing your poetry and you have picked the right image for it as well. Thanks!
